How do I travel with my GLP-1 pen across customs, fridge, and time zones?
GLP-1 pens travel fine with a few precautions. Carry-on only, original packaging with the prescription, insulated pouch or ice pack for trips over 8 hours. Most countries permit personal-use quantities; UAE, Singapore, and some Asian transit hubs prefer a doctor's letter. Time-zone shifts under 6 hours rarely matter for weekly dosing.

The temperature rules
Unopened pens: 36 to 46 °F (2 to 8 °C). Once in use, brand Mounjaro and Wegovy pens tolerate room temperature up to 86 °F (30 °C) for up to 21 days. So a 12-hour flight in your carry-on is fine without active cooling for an in-use pen. For an unopened pen on a long-haul, an insulated medicine pouch with one or two reusable ice packs is sufficient. Do not check pens. Cargo holds get below freezing at altitude and frozen pens are scrap.
Customs and the doctor's letter
Most ASEAN, EU, US, UK, AU, and NZ customs lanes do not flag personal-use GLP-1 pens with original packaging and a prescription label. UAE and Saudi Arabia are stricter on prescription medications generally and prefer a doctor's letter (English) confirming personal use, dosage, and travel duration. Singapore allows up to 3 months of personal medication with the prescription. Always carry pens in original packaging with the prescription label visible. Strip the cardboard if you must but keep the foil pen wrapper.
Real-world hacks for long trips
For trips over two weeks where you cannot reliably refrigerate at the destination, pre-cool a Frio insulin wallet (evaporative cooling, no power needed, 45-hour cooling cycle) and rotate it between the destination and a hostel/hotel fridge. For business travel across multiple time zones, weekly dosing tolerates a 24-hour shift either direction without re-titration. Beyond that, wait until you've adjusted to local time and resume the normal weekly cadence. If you miss a dose by more than 4 days, reset your titration ladder by one step.
